Xara's Story

Xara was homeless and alone, with no one to watch out for her—until a kind woman named Rosa opened her door and gave Xara a chance. Food. Shelter. Compassion.

Just two weeks later, late at night, a stunned Rosa found Xara giving birth in her bedroom. Xara labored through the night for eight or nine painful hours. When one puppy became stuck, Rosa had no idea what to do and nowhere to turn until morning. When the sun finally came up, she found her way to SNAP—unsure if anyone could even help.

While providing emergency care falls outside SNAP’s scope of services, SNAP veterinarian, Dr. Bender, knew she could—and needed to—help in this situation, so Xara was rushed into emergency, life-saving surgery. Dr. Bender was unable to save the puppy; the objective shifted entirely to saving Xara’s life. Thanks to Dr. Bender’s compassion and skill, Xara made it through surgery. Alive. Stable. Safe. Free from pain after hours of struggle.

Now comes the hard question: What if Xara had been spayed?
She never would have suffered. Rosa would have been spared the experience of watching this dog she had taken into her care nearly die in her home. There would have been no emergency surgery, no trauma, no unexpected financial burden.

What if you donate today?
How many Xaras could be spared?
How many lives could be saved before crisis results from unplanned litters?

Spaying saves lives.

And Xara is living proof.
