What is a spay surgery?

Spaying is the surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus (ovariohysterectomy) or removal of ovaries +/- partial uterus (ovariectomy) in female dog and cats.

These procedures prevent pregnancy and reduces the potential for medical conditions like mammary cancer (breast cancer) and pyometra (infection of the uterus) which are driven by the hormones produce by the ovaries.
