Frank and Troy's Story

THEN: Troy was working a temp job in a Texas oilfield when a friendly, hungry dog hopped into his truck, hoping for a bite of lunch. His nephew mentioned seeing a malnourished female dog tied to a tree nearby. With his big heart, Troy bargained with the owner and bought her for $150. She had a litter, and one pup—Frank—became Troy’s loyal companion.

When the oilfield job ended, Troy became homeless. Shelters wouldn’t take Frank, and Troy refused to go without him. The City of San Antonio offered them a place—if Frank was neutered first. Determined to keep his friend safe, Troy turned to SNAP, where a compassionate vet performed the surgery for free.

A month later, Troy returned to the clinic with good news: they had shelter, and he had a job offer. With tears in his eyes, he thanked SNAP for being “people who actually care.”

NOW: Troy and his loyal pup, Frank, visited our SNAP clinic recently for a Vaccine and Prevention appointment. Frank got his annual vaccines and heartworm test, keeping him happy and healthy.

Though still at the shelter, Frank and Troy are thriving. With a steady job, Troy is providing for them both, grateful for the unwavering love of his furry companion.

A heartwarming reunion with SNAP’s Practice Manager, Molly, brought smiles and a warm embrace—proof of the deep connections formed through care and compassion.

Their story is a beautiful reminder of the unbreakable bond between people and their pets. Today’s World Spay Day allows us to continue spreading the word about the lifesaving impact of spaying and neutering!
