Because our animal companions are so important to us, we at SNAP are kicking off our #PetsAreAwesome campaign with reflections on the many and complex ways they enrich our lives.
Pets are family.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, 85% of dog owners and 76% of cat owners consider their pets to be family members; a majority of pet owners even say they love their pet more than their siblings.
Pets are therapy.
There is nothing more therapeutic than the unconditional love our animal companions give us. Numerous studies show the positive impacts our pets have on our health: decreasing blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, and feelings of loneliness; and increasing opportunities for exercise, outdoor activities, and socialization.
Pets are worthy of our love, care, and protection.
Our pets are not “just” animals. For thousands of years, cats and dogs (and sometimes other species) have learned to live around humans, and we have learned (and are learning) to coexist with them. At SNAP, we believe that the way we treat animals defines who we are as individuals and as a society.
Pets are our responsibility.
As animals domesticated by humans, our dog and cat companions depend upon our care in order to live healthy and happy lives, and SNAP strives to make that care accessible and affordable for the people and pets in our community.
SNAP’s caring and capable team is eager to help more furry family members, and your partnership makes that possible. As the end of the year is fast approaching, please consider a gift to SNAP’s #PetsAreAwesome campaign so we can help more awesome people and pets in our community.
